If you follow our Instagram account then you probably are aware that we love fresh flowers.
Having a beautiful bunch of fresh flowers in your home is said to increase happiness & we fully agree with this statement, because it does bring us great joy.
Not only does it improve mood, but increases creativity & relaxation which is another thumbs ups as to why you should spoil yourself every once in a while with gorgeous bunch.
Our top tips for keeping fresh flowers:
- We went to Myth busters for this one. First prize would be keeping your flowers in the fridge, which unless you’re a florist, I doubt this would be an option in your home. But another option for keeping that gorgeous bunch of awesomeness around a little longer would be………can I get a little drum roll………Apple cider Vinegar & Sugar. Flowers need sugar as food. Sugar is substantial ingredient in flower food packets. The problem is sugar accelerates bacterial growth. And you get those gunky, slimy leaves around day 4 to prove it. The solution is to add an acid. Enter vinegar, the bacteria-fighting agent to combat any damage the sugar creates. It’s the perfect combo for helping your flowers last a little longer. And we like it because it’s certainly more eco friendly than bleach or aspirin.
- Recipe: To a large vase of fresh cold water add 1 tablespoon of white or apple cider vinegar & 2 tablespoons of sugar.
- If you’re up to it, re-cutting the stems ever so often does add longevity, because the stems seal up after a day or two.
- Change the water daily & remember to add new batch your homemade power food.
- An interesting little fact, just because we’re Dutch & tulips are a big thing for us…hehe, tulips continue to grow after being cut, up to an inch or more. They are “phototropic”, bending towards the light, so rotate containers daily to keep stems more upright.
Wishing you a blossoming day.
