Azulejo ceramic tiles are a unique feature to Portugal & although it’s not a Portuguese innovation, as it was introduced during Moorish times, no other culture used these tiles as creatively. It’s definitely been embedded deep with in their civilization & history.
These alluring ceramic tiled buildings can be found through out Portugal, but if you really want to be dazzled, Lisbon will certainly impress, the designs adorn almost every structure from historic to the modern day metro station.
We enjoyed exploring this city. Every corner you turn surprises you with another charming street & buildings.
The other thing we couldn’t get enough of was all the old & naturally distressed doors, each doorway tells a story, and we loved the rustic beauty.
